Overview

Psychosocial risk management is no longer optional — it’s a critical leadership capability. Led by Dr Georgi Toma — a recognised expert in psychosocial hazards and Director of Heart Brain Works — this full-day, hands-on workshop is designed to equip WHS and HR professionals, as well as organisational leaders, with the clarity, tools, and confidence to embed psychosocial risk controls into day-to-day operations.

Drawing on Dr Toma’s extensive experience across New Zealand and Australia, and her work with organisations like Uber, Hitachi Energy, and Environment Canterbury, the session blends real-world insights, the latest research, and engaging activities. Participants will learn how to identify and manage key psychosocial risks, build a business case for psychosocial risk initiatives, equip line managers as frontline mitigators, and assess organisational maturity using a proven diagnostic framework.

By the end of the day, participants will walk away with a tailored action plan — informed by benchmarking, peer discussion, and expert facilitation — to help them move beyond compliance and lead meaningful change in their own workplaces.

Learning Objectives

This workshop is highly participatory. Activities include:

  • Mini-scenario analysis: What would you do in this manager’s shoes? (Participants vote on real-world case scenarios)
  • Peer mapping: What supports (and risks) do your line managers currently face?
  • Live benchmarking: Complete the Psychosocial Risk Maturity Scale and compare anonymously across the room
  • Breakout planning: Identify 2–3 realistic next steps to better embed psychosocial risk management in your own workplace
  • Experience sharing: Engage in facilitated discussions to learn from others’ successes and challenges in implementing psychosocial risk strategies
